Field Representative

Job Description

The Phoenix PBSamp;J office is looking for a Field Representative. Under the direct supervision of a Project Engineer, Construction Management Representative or Resident Engineer, this individual observes activities at construction projects to determine adherence to contract documents and regulatory agency provisions. NOTE: Incumbents do not supervise any contractors' activities and are not responsible for job site safety. Other duties for this position may include:
- Inspection of construction pojects related to new subdivisions, emergency repairs, improvement districts, special events, public utilities, new road surfaces, major and minor sub-divisions, curb and gutters, storm drains, box culverts, bridges, excavations, pipe laying, concrete strctures to ensure compliance with plans, specifications and safety standards.
- Review of construction plans and traffic control plans and placement of barricades.
- Conducts pre-job conferences.
- Reviews a wide range of testing procedurs and results from professional testing laboratories and contractors.
- Investigates and resolves citizens complaints before, during and after construction projects.
- Inspects sub-grade, base course and asphalt paving to assure compliance wit specifications.
- Resolves construction conflict problems where possible and recommends any probable or desirable changes, requiring design change to Engineer.
- Maintains a log of key inspections and significant events on each project.
- Conducts Pre-Final, Final Inspections to ensure conformance with plans, MAG Specifications and prepares punch lists.
- Assures all constructon complies with the latest ASTM, AASHTO, NPDES and OSHA regulations.
- Demonstrates continuous process improvement and work cooperatively to provide quality seamless customer service.
- Observes underground installations, and determines whethr construction work is being performed in substantial compliance with contract plans and specifications.
- Tests soil density, concrete, asphalt and other construction materials.
- Verifies form construction rebar placement, concrete mixture, ile driving blow counts, drainage structure placement, subgrade and base construction.
- Writes daily inspection reports, weather reports, and documents test results and observations.
- Assists senior field representatives and project engineerin all types of record keeping and field measurements, as needed.
- Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.


Some local travel may be required.



Job Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent.
Three years experience in construction or construction observation activities or the equivalent combination of experience and specific technical training or relevant courses of study. (An Associates Degree in Construction Management or related technical field may substitute for two years actual field exp.)
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and to understand contract plans and specifications. Shall have general knowledge of public works engineering nd the ability to read construction plans and render prompt, knowledgeable decisions and problem resolution.Should be actively pursuing certification in nuclear density, aggregate, concrete and asphalt testing. Preference will be given to those with any o these certification below.
